Senior-level BESS technical authority providing advanced engineering oversight for utility-scale battery energy storage projects. Leads EPC coordination, commissioning support, fire protection interfaces, and standards development while mentoring junior staff. Fully remote role supporting nationwide renewable energy infrastructure.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required
3-5+ years progressive electrical engineering, BESS, EPC, or utility-scale renewable energy experience
Strong understanding of BESS design, integration, commissioning, battery systems, inverters, BMS, EMS, and controls
Demonstrated ability to coordinate EORs, vendors, consultants, AHJs, owners, and internal project teams
Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and commissioning documentation
Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NFPA 855, UL 9540, UL 9540A, and utility requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and BESS analysis tools preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Ability to support field work, travel as required, and manage multiple concurrent complex scopes
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
Serve as BESS subject matter expert for engineering scopes including equipment layout, electrical integration, controls, and fire protection
Coordinate Engineers of Record, vendors, consultants, fire protection engineers, AHJs, owners, and stakeholders
Review BESS drawings, specifications, technical reports, vendor documentation, and commissioning deliverables
Track engineering action items, review comments, vendor responses, and design revisions through closure
Support resolution of technical conflicts, constructability concerns, field questions, and vendor coordination issues
Review BESS system architecture, equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, control narratives, and vendor packages
Support review of fire protection design packages, hazard mitigation documentation, and AHJ-facing technical information
Provide senior-level engineering support during BESS construction, testing, commissioning, energization, and initial operations
Support project teams with RFIs, engineering clarifications, field issue resolution, and design revisions
Participate in warranty investigations, root-cause evaluations, and corrective action development
Contribute to creation and refinement of BESS engineering standards, review workflows, SWIs, and best-practice documents
Serve as technical escalation resource for field teams and project engineers on BESS engineering questions
Mentor Construction Engineering staff through technical guidance, document review support, and knowledge sharing
Fully remote position with specific location details discussed during interview process
Individual contributor track with mentorship responsibilities
Functions as technical authority for high-risk BESS scopes and complex site or warranty issues
Supports portfolio-level continuous improvement initiatives
Requires travel for field work as needed
