Lead complex SCADA design workstreams for utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects. Produce high-quality drawings, resolve technical issues, and ensure commissioning readiness and long-term system reliability in a fully remote role.
Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering preferred
6-8 years of engineering experience with direct SCADA engineering experience
Experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, networking, electrical, and substation designs
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD
Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures
Advanced knowledge of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP
Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA
Advanced knowledge reading and developing power system, networking, electrical, mechanical and civil diagrams
Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and control system interaction with governing bodies
Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel
Proficiency with project management, scheduling, and task management tools
Excellent communication skills
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
Lead in-house design of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects
Develop comprehensive designs using AutoCAD, Visio, and other design tools
Define, document, and improve SCADA design standards and best practices
Own and drive review of project scope of work documents and lead cross-functional requirements gathering
Develop detailed design documentation including communications diagrams, networking port maps, and equipment bill of materials
Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawing sets and generate redlines
Develop and reinforce drawing review quality standards across the design team
Serve as primary technical escalation point for complex SCADA equipment configurations and design challenges
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical review and knowledge sharing
Collaborate with OT teams to define and validate server and networking equipment hardware requirements
Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce design and commissioning effort
Generate project documentation including block diagrams, elevations, fiber routing, and equipment wiring diagrams
Develop training materials in accordance with company standards
Provide project status updates and risk assessments
Promote and adhere to NERC compliance and governance
Lead special projects to research SCADA equipment and emerging technologies
Serve as senior SCADA Design lead in customer-facing meetings and technical reviews
Interface with 3rd party integrators during SCADA rack and FNE assembly
Lead system design review portion of customer-witnessed SCADA headend Factory Acceptance Tests
Coordinate with customers, utility representatives, and field technicians for on-site commissioning support
Support operations and asset management teams during project handoff
Fully remote position with specific location details discussed during interview
