About this role
Solution architect role driving digital transformation initiatives with focus on performance optimization for Java, IBM i/AS400, and DB2 environments. You'll design technical solutions from discovery through implementation, lead architecture workshops, and serve as senior technical escalation for complex enterprise systems.
Must have
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
12+ years experience designing enterprise-scale web systems
Proven experience as senior solution, technical, or application architect
Expert-level enterprise web development skills in Java, PHP, or similar platforms
Strong track record diagnosing and resolving complex application and system performance issues
Deep practical knowledge of Java optimization including JVM, memory management, garbage collection, multi-threading, and profiling
Experience evaluating performance in IBM i, iSeries, or AS400 environments
Mastery of DB2 optimization including SQL queries, indexing, access plans, and workload analysis
Ability to investigate across all stack layers: code, database, OS, middleware, and infrastructure
Experience designing solutions for integrated and mission-critical systems
Excellent technical documentation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to clearly communicate and defend complex technical decisions
Capacity to manage competing priorities and provide architecture leadership across multiple simultaneous projects

Own technical solution throughout project lifecycle ensuring alignment with client requirements and business objectives
Evaluate and optimize application and system performance for Java, IBM i/AS400, and DB2 environments
Analyze bottlenecks at application, database, operating system, and infrastructure levels
Recommend and apply strategies to improve response time, transaction throughput, resource utilization, scalability, and overall stability
Analyze Java application behavior including memory, garbage collection, thread management, connections, and application servers
Evaluate IBM i system performance including workload management, job activity, CPU and memory usage, and subsystems
Evaluate DB2 performance including query execution, indexing, access plans, SQL, locking, and configuration
Research and evaluate technical options to guide modernization architectures and strategies
Design solutions integrating Java, PHP, IBM i, DB2, and other technologies per specific mandate needs
Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, sustainable, and maintainable architectures
Lead technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and design discussions
Present, explain, and defend architecture recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences
Write architecture documentation, technical specifications, diagrams, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, delivery, and client teams
Promote architecture best practices, development standards, and performance monitoring tools
Act as senior escalation point during discovery, development, testing, deployment, and production support phases
Balance modernization objectives with realities of legacy and critical environments
