About this role

Design and evolve backend capabilities for GitLab's global DevSecOps platform used by 50M+ users. Shape architecture, mentor engineers, and integrate agentic AI into production systems in a remote-first, asynchronous environment.

Must have

Deep backend expertise with APIs, data systems, and performance tuning

Proficiency in modern backend languages with ability to learn and adapt

Experience designing modular backend boundaries and migration-safe architectures

Proven experience building or operating agentic AI systems in production

Ability to lead through influence and clear written asynchronous communication

Responsibilities

Design and ship moderate to complex backend features with minimal guidance

Use AI in production engineering work and coach others on responsible high-judgment use
