About this role
Build and scale core backend systems for Penn Interactive's iCasino platform powering Hollywood Casino and theScore Bet. Design GraphQL APIs, gRPC services, and real-money wagering flows while mentoring engineers and driving production reliability.
Must have
Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering
2+ years of experience building applications in Elixir is required
2+ years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas
Strong foundation in computer science with competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design
Strong grasp of production systems at scale with experience identifying improvement areas through load testing and tracing
Experience investigating and remediating production performance regressions including CPU hotspots and latency regressions
Experience with on-call rotations for a production service including owning release cycles end-to-end
Strong grasp of relational databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL
Experience with Kubernetes and comfort operating services in containerized environments
Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent
Experience with background job processing such as Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, or Beanstalk
Experience with asynchronous event handling infrastructure such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub

Design, scale, and performance-tune GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries powering casino lobby, game launch, and real-money wagering flows
Own technical problems of highest scope and complexity, drafting proposals and presenting to leadership and partner teams
Design, architect, and deliver new features and game provider integrations end-to-end in collaborative agile scrum environment
Identify bottlenecks and areas of risk in production and drive changes that make platform more scalable
Set up and refine monitoring and alerting in DataDog for owned systems
Mentor engineers on team and across teams that ship into codebase through specs, pairing, and code review
