About this role

Censys seeks a Staff Backend Engineer to lead technical direction for their Exposure Management team, migrating legacy ASM to a next-generation platform. You'll own backend services, drive cross-team alignment, mentor engineers, and leverage AI/LLM technologies to enhance the platform's intelligent capabilities.

Must have

10+ years of experience in software engineering

5+ years of experience with Go

Deep understanding of how the Internet works including WHOIS, SANs, and DNS

Strong distributed systems background with high availability and fault-tolerance

Experience with service-oriented architectures and operational stack

Ability to navigate unfamiliar legacy systems and reverse-engineer behavior

Strong communication and technical design skills

Open to using AI to amplify skills and improve efficiency

Responsibilities

Serve as Tech Lead for the Exposure Management team driving technical direction

Own migration plan and execution from legacy ASM to new Exposure Management platform

Take end-to-end ownership of backend services and resolve complex legacy behavior

Drive technical alignment across shared systems improving scalability

Foster culture of technical excellence through mentorship and architectural leadership

Leverage AI and LLM technologies to improve engineering efficiency and platform capabilities
