About this role
Join a well-funded healthtech startup as the second technical hire, owning full technical direction for an AI-powered mobile product using biofeedback and biosignal data to help people manage chronic symptoms. You'll ship the first end-to-end AI coaching experience, design the model and feedback loop, and make foundational stack decisions with a direct path to CTO.
Must have
Proven experience shipping Claude or frontier models in production with prompts, tool use, and evals
Willingness and ability to work on-site in Montreal, San Francisco, or New York City
3+ years of mobile/full-stack engineering experience with one 0→1 consumer mobile app shipped
Experience with AI-native infrastructure integrated across layers
Backend development in Node.js or Python with PostgreSQL and modern infra
Deep fluency in React Native and full ownership of the mobile lifecycle
Experience with HealthKit, wearable APIs, or real-time biosignal data

Responsibilities
Own technical direction and hands-on execution as Founding Engineer and potential CTO
Ship the first AI coaching experience end-to-end from React Native app to frontier-model inference
Architect and build the AI nervous system training coach including model design and evaluation
Translate biosignals into a real-time personalized coaching layer
Build AI-powered QA and testing pipelines for safe continuous shipping
Own full-stack decisions across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI-native layers
Integrate iOS/HealthKit and wearable platforms like Apple Watch, Oura, Whoop, and EEG headbands
Collaborate closely with the founding team in person to move fast and make hard tradeoffs
