About this role

Lead engineering teams building mission-critical K-12 school nutrition software processing 1B+ meal transactions annually. Player/coach role (80% people leadership, 20% technical) driving modernization to .NET Core, AWS, and PostgreSQL.

Must have

3+ years managing software engineering teams with track record of shipping production software

Experience managing mixed FTE and contractor teams

Strong technical background with substantial .NET and C# experience shipping real systems

Comfort across Angular and SQL Server or close-adjacent stacks

Experience leading modernization work evolving legacy systems incrementally

Evidence-based management approach familiar with DORA, SPACE, or equivalent frameworks

Production experience working in AWS environments with Lambda, RDS, and cloud-native services

Hands-on user of Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted coding environments

Coaching-first instinct defaulting to asking before telling

Direct communicator able to challenge respectfully and write crisp exec updates

Fluent in Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices

Responsibilities

Lead and grow team of engineers across blended FTE and contractor model

Own delivery outcomes for School Nutrition platform partnering with Product

Shape and execute modernization roadmap toward .NET Core, cloud-native services, and PostgreSQL

Raise hiring bar and own hiring loop for your team

Contribute as technical leader in ADRs, design reviews, and high-stakes code reviews

Drive healthy engineering practices including testing discipline, CI/CD, DORA metrics, and incident response

Enable team to adopt AI-assisted development tooling effectively and responsibly

Cultivate culture where engineers are confident to change code

Communicate clearly in writing on roadmaps, status, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions
