About this role

Build privacy-conscious abuse detection tools that protect Wikipedia and sister projects serving billions of pageviews monthly. Work on large-scale systems balancing safety, user anonymity, and free knowledge access in a remote-first environment.

Must have

1+ years related professional experience

Experience building and maintaining large-scale applications

Proficiency in PHP, Javascript or similar

Proficiency in relational databases

Strong foundation in security principles

Experience in driving cross-team objectives

Experience in driving user and product impact

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain tools empowering communities to identify, mitigate, and prevent abuse across Wikimedia projects

Design privacy-conscious systems detecting behavioral abuse patterns while minimizing false positives

Adapt abuse detection strategies in response to browser privacy and networking protocol changes

Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and researchers on holistic solutions

Write resilient, maintainable systems and high-quality code focused on long-term sustainability

Implement observability to maintain high levels of quality and system stability

Instrument and measure the impact of anti-abuse across Wikimedia projects
